Hinge Health is a leading musculoskeletal care platform for individuals seeking to treat and prevent joint and muscle pain. As we rapidly expanded, our learning infrastructure struggled to keep pace, limiting our ability to support a growing workforce with diverse training needs. Our existing setup relied on multiple platforms for compliance and required training, but it lacked the flexibility to foster internal knowledge-sharing or empower employees to create company-specific content. Learning was primarily driven by third-party resources, making it difficult to tailor training experiences to the unique challenges employees faced in their daily work. Beyond improving compliance, we needed a scalable and accessible solution that could support the entire organization—from leadership development to technical documentation and operational training—while providing a seamless, AI-powered experience. More than just meeting mandatory training requirements, we wanted to build a system that aligned with our learn-it-all culture, making knowledge easy to create, share, and apply across teams.

Creating a decentralized learning ecosystem

One of our leadership principles at Hinge Health is the "learn-it-all” mentality. This principle reflects our identity as an organization—we aren't know-it-alls but learn-it-alls. It's about welcoming contrary opinions, seeking out truth, and challenging ourselves to improve daily.

This vision wasn't just aspirational. Through performance reviews and leadership goals, we actively incentivize team members to invest in their skills and up-level their knowledge. However, our previous learning setup relied on third-party content and fragmented systems, which created unnecessary barriers. We wanted to create a learning system where subject matter experts could build, publish, and share expertise.

Sana stood out because of its AI-powered content creation capabilities and its potential to turn every user into a content creator. This combination of features offered the flexibility and scalability we needed to build a truly decentralized system. When you empower people to share knowledge in an accessible, approachable format, the cross-functional collaboration opportunities become incredible.

Sana's flexibility has sparked more learning across the organization. Our R&D team builds technical documentation with interactive elements, our recruiting team published interactive and in-depth interview training for hiring managers, and our Support Team utilizes AI scenario simulations to reinforce real-world application of skills.

While our central L&D team guides the overall learning strategy, the real power lies in how different departments adapt the platform to their needs. Our decentralized approach means our training content isn't just more abundant—it's more relevant, engaging, and effective for each team's unique context.

Building a community of creators

When we launched our partnership with Sana, implementation began with making the platform feel like home. We established our brand presence by uploading fonts, colors, and visual assets, making them accessible to everyone in the organization. Building on this foundation, we developed our Content Creator certification program—a focused 30-minute training covering adult learning principles, platform functionality, and our quality standards. By connecting certified creators through a dedicated Slack channel, we've fostered a collaborative community that continues to grow.

The impact exceeded our expectations: Within two months, we launched 100 courses company-wide. The platform's seamless integration with our HR systems and LinkedIn Learning has created a comprehensive learning ecosystem that maintains compliance with healthcare industry requirements through US-based hosting.

Transforming leadership development

We're piloting a new approach built around clear manager expectations. They can exhibit their learning through practical application, and we're establishing baseline metrics to measure growth over time. This data-driven approach helps us continuously refine our program while ensuring it delivers tangible value.

What makes this particularly powerful is how it aligns with our learn-it-all culture. Managers aren't just consuming content – they're actively participating in discussions, sharing experiences, and building practical leadership skills. As we expand this program throughout 2025 and beyond, we're excited to see how it will strengthen our leadership capabilities across the organization.

One of the most significant impacts has been on compliance training. Our timely compliance training completion rates have risen significantly since we moved to Sana. The key to this success lies in personalization: engagement naturally follows when courses directly address employees' daily experiences.

What excites me most is how our teams use the platform—not just for mandatory training but to share expertise across departments. The numbers speak for themselves. We've gone from manual processes and fragmented systems to a place where learning happens naturally.

We're already exploring what's next. There's so much potential to personalize learning experiences and further streamline knowledge sharing. Our teams keep finding new ways to collaborate and teach each other; that's what happens when you make learning accessible and give people the right tools. Most importantly, we're staying true to our learn-it-all mentality. It's not just a principle on paper—it's how we work day to day.
